Patna: International rated players Pammi Rani and Vishuddha Nischal won the women’s and men’s titles of the 4th Balkeshwar Memorial Open Chess Championship being at Deshratna Auditorium, Bihar Vidyapeeth (Sadaquat Ashram) here on Wednesday.
Top seeded international rated chess player Vishuddha Nischal defeated Vikrant and won the first position in men’s category while Vikrant, Akarsh, Vishnu, Ritesh and Piyush got the second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth positions respectively.
In the decisive fifth round match of the women’s section, international rated player Pammi Rani defeated international rated player Minki Sinha to win the women’s title. Minki Sinha, Jyoti Kumari, Priya Rani, Dibyasha, Sonali Mukta finished second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth position respectively.

Boys’ under-8 years: Ayush Raj (1st), Devansh Keshari (2nd), Achintya (3rd).
Boys under – 10 years: Parth (1st), Arsh Shreen (2nd), Surya Prakash (3rd).
Boys’ under – 12 years – Kartikeya Nandan (1st), Susan (2nd), Nilaya (3rd).
Boys’ under-14 years: Saksham Nath (1st), Siddhant (2nd), Ishant (3rd).
Girls’ under – 6 years: Ankita (1st), Arshi (second)
Girls’ under – 8 Years: Aradhana Verma
Girls’ under-10 years: Vagisha (1st), Shiksha Sadhna (2nd).
Girls’ under-12 years: Variza (1st), Kriti (2nd).
Girls’ under-14 years: Babli secured the first position.
Best promoting players’ award: Dheeraj Kumar (B.Ed 1st Year), Chandrakant (B.Ed 2nd Year), Varsha Singh (B.Ed 1st Year). Apart from this, all other participants were given mementos and certificates.
Chief guest Bihar Legislative Council member and President of Bihar State Ball Badminton Association Prof Nawal Kishore Yadav, special guest Patna University NSS coordinator Prof Suheli Mehta, guest of honour Ishwar Dayal Trust secretary Anamika Paswan, NMCH Doctor Dr Anita Kumari, Director of Bihar Vidyapeeth Dr Mridula Prakash, Principal Poonam Verma and social worker Savitri Devi gave away the prizes.
The function was presided over by Rana Awadhesh Kumar, Secretary, Bihar Vidyapeeth. The stage was conducted by Mitali Mitra, assistant professor, physical education, DRPSPM. The guests were welcomed by MVP Chess Club president Arvind Kumar and secretary Ved Prakash. Gouri Shankar, secretary, Bihar State Ball Badminton Association was also present on the occasion.
