Maryam Fatima Crowned Bihar Women’s Chess Champ

Patna, May 12: The Bihar State Women’s Chess Championship, held at the Bihar School of Chess in Patliputra Sports Complex since May 10 under the auspices of the All Bihar Chess Association, concluded today. On the last day of this seven-round contest, Maryam Fatima won the title with 6.5 points. In the final round, Maryam won the title by defeating Patna’s Minky Sinha on the top board.

On the second board, the inconclusive match between Pari Sinha and Neha Singh earned Pari the title of runner-up. Pari Sinha of the sub-junior age group went undefeated in the competition and earned her debut in the Bihar women’s squad with a superb performance. Last year’s winner, Neha Singh, finished third this time, while Adeeba Ullah, who finished third last year, made it onto the team by finishing fourth.

Following the conclusion of the final round, chief guest M Ramachandradu, Director of Census and Statistics, presented the victorious players with cash awards, trophies, and certificates. Dharmendra Kumar, Secretary of the All Bihar Chess Association, was present on the occasion and delivered the PN Sharma Memorial Running Trophy, which is awarded annually to the state chess winner.

On this occasion, Ajit Kumar Singh honoured the chief guest with a souvenir and a chess board. Nand Kishore, Joint Secretary of All Bihar Chess Association and chief arbiter of the tournament, presided over the programme, while Rajendra Kumar, Senior Vice President of All Bihar Chess Association, proposed the vote of thanks.

Iqbal Alam, Joint Secretary of the All Bihar Chess Association, tournament coordinator Ved Prakash, co-arbitrator Alok Priyadarshi, and numerous dignitaries, including Priyanka Kumari, Bipin Kumar, and Rajesh Kumar, were in attendance.
