Patna: In the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Kavita Kumari at the Begusarai District Court, a complaint has been lodged by Vikas Paswan, son of Mahesh Paswan, a resident of Bhagatpur under the Ballia police station jurisdiction against Bihar CM Nitish Kumar.

The complainant has accused Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar of violating Section 3 of the National Pride Insult Prevention Act 1971.The allegation stems from an incident on March 20, 2025, during which the Chief Minister is said to have engaged in conversation with an individual next to him while the national anthem was being played, thereby causing disruption and allegedly insulting the anthem.

According to the complaint, Vikas Paswan observed the Chief Minister’s behaviour in a video broadcast on the Times Now Navbharat channel and YouTube, which reportedly left him deeply distressed. Paswan asserted that the Chief Minister’s actions during the national anthem amounted to an insult to the nation’s pride.

The case has been registered under Sections 298 and 352 of the BNS, along with Sections 2 and 3 of the National Pride Insult Prevention Act, pertaining to the alleged disrespect of the national anthem. The incident in question occurred at a public function in Patna, where it was claimed that the Chief Minister was seen greeting people while the anthem was being played.
