Bihar Bowlers Shine Against Tripura on Day One of Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 Clash

Patna: In the Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 Multi-day Cricket Tournament, Bihar bowlers delivered an impressive performance against Tripura, restricting them to 190 runs for nine wickets on the opening day of the match, which began on Friday, 6 December.

The match, played at MGM School Ground, Cuttack, Odisha, saw Tripura win the toss and elect to bat. Bihar’s bowlers made early inroads, reducing Tripura to 60 runs for five wickets. A crucial 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Prasannajit Chakraborty and Sandipan Das provided some stability, while contributions from the middle and lower order helped push Tripura’s total forward.

At stumps on Day 1, Tripura had managed 190 runs for the loss of nine wickets in 92 overs. Key contributions came from Sandipan Das, who top-scored with 48 runs, and Prasannajit Chakraborty, who added 26. Other notable scores included Adi Debnath (19), Prithiraj Gop (19), Mahin (12), and Siddharth Debnath (12). At close of play, Kishan Sarkar and Shubhdeep Paul were both unbeaten on 14 runs each.

Bihar’s bowlers showcased excellent discipline and control. Aryan Patel was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 3 wickets for 42 runs. Animesh Raj also took 3 wickets, conceding 31 runs. Satyam Raj contributed with 2 wickets for 43 runs, while Abhijeet Singh chipped in with 1 wicket for just 5 runs.

The match will resume on Day 2, with Bihar aiming to wrap up Tripura’s innings quickly.
