Akash Raj hits ton as Patna post big win over Saran in BCA Inter District Cricket Tournament

Patna: Patna chalked out an impressive 250-run win over Saran in the inaugural match of Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) senior category inter-district cricket tournament at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Saturday.

Batting first, Patna scored 288 runs for 3 wickets in 40 overs. In reply Saran scored 38 runs,  losing all wickets in 10.5 overs.

Earlier, BCA tournament committee convener Gyaneshwar Gautam, chief spokesperson Sanjeev Kumar Mishra, GM cricket operations Sunil Kumar Singh and Patna District Cricket Operations Committee convener Rajesh Kumar got inaugurated the tournament and got introduced to the players. Patliputra Zone matches are being organised in Patna.

The match started late due to a wet pitch and was restricted to 40 overs. Saran won the toss and invited Patna to bat. Openers Piyush Kumar Singh and Shasheem Rathore started Patna’s innings and they added 57 runs for the first wicket. Patna got its first blow when Piyush Kumar Singh got out scoring 22 runs.

Babul and Shasheem took the innings forward and they added 61 runs. Shasheem got out as the second wicket for Patna in the 19.3 overs. Shasheem scored 74 runs in 54 balls with the help of 10 fours and 3 sixes.

Captain Akash Raj joined Babul Kumar and they added of 95 runs for the third wicket before Babul fell scoring 58 runs. Later part of the innings, Akash Raj slammed a brilliant century 106 not out with 14×4 and 3×6.  For Saran,  Prashant Singh took 1 wicket for 49 runs, Anoop Kumar took two wickets for 34 runs.

Chasing a target of 289 runs, Saran collapsed for just 38 runs in 10.5 overs. Three Saran batsmen returned to the pavilion without opening their account. Prashant Kumar Singh scored maximum 8 runs for Saran. For Patna, Abhijeet Saket took 4 for 20, Vivek Kumar took 3 for 8 and Malay Raj took 3 wickets.
