Bihar Police to Introduce Drone Unit to Combat Crime

By Vishwapati
Patna: The Bihar Police will now utilise drones to help control crime. A dedicated drone police unit is set to be established soon, which will strengthen law and order in the state. This unit will play a crucial role in traffic management and raid operations, particularly in cracking down on liquor and sand smuggling. The Special Task Force (STF) will serve as its nodal agency.

Bihar Police Take Progressive Steps

According to information from the Police Headquarters, work has already begun to set up the drone unit. Once operational, its services will be deployed following a specific Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The Bihar Police are developing this hi-tech security unit with assistance from the Tamil Nadu and Uttarakhand Police, as well as Air Force.

The Chennai Police have already implemented a similar unit, and Bihar is now advancing in the same direction.

Deployment of Drones

Officers and personnel assigned to the drone police unit will soon undergo specialised training to ensure effective operations. The Bihar Police will obtain different drone licences based on weight classifications. Currently, drones are already being used to curb illegal liquor production and unauthorised sand mining in the Diara region.

Now, the question remains as to when the Bihar Police’s drone unit will be fully operational. Only time will tell. However, one thing is certain—the use of drones will undoubtedly aid in crime control.
