Bhagalpur: An annual cultural feast of this region, the two-day Vikramshila Mahotsav will be organized this year on March 17 and March 18. Organized jointly by art, culture and youth department of state government besides local administration the mahotsav would be organized this time after gap of two years.
The mahotsav could not be organized during last two years because of pandemic. In order to organize the annual cultural feast in its usual grandeur preparations have already started at district level.
A meeting chaired by Subrat Kumar Sen, District Magistrate (DM) was held this week to discuss preparatory arrangements for mahotsav. Lalan Paswan, BJP, MLA from Pirpainty besides Zila Parishad and panchayat body members were among participants in the meeting.
As per available information it was decided in meeting that mahotsav would be organized at place adjacent to site of excavated ruins of ancient Vikramshila University located in Kahalgaon subdivision of district.
To ensure Vikramshila Mahotsav proves to be an occasion for showcasing art, culture and tradition of this region, discussions were held in the meeting. It was decided committees constituted at district and sub divisional levels for organizing mahotsav would work in coordination for success of cultural feast.
A consensus decision was taken in meeting for preparing an action plan shortly for organizing mahotsav successfully. It was further decided apart from outside artistes the local artistes would be also provided opportunity to perform in mahotsav.

Meanwhile taking into consideration the government land adjacent to site of excavated ruins selected as venue of mahotsav is encroached for cultivation purpose; necessary directive has been issued for clearing encroachment if any at selected venue well before mahotsav.
Further taking note of the fact road link of venue of mahotsav from district headquarter remains poor due to bad condition of road, necessary instructions have been also issued for taking up repair work of road before mahotsav.
