Patna: Two police officers have been killed in Bihar over the past two days. Following an incident in Araria, another policeman was fatally attacked in Munger today. In Munger, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Santosh Kumar was attempting to mediate a dispute between two parties during Holi celebrations when he was fatally stabbed with a sharp weapon.
The incident occurred on Friday night near Nandlalpur in Munger, where a dispute had erupted between two groups. ASI Santosh Kumar, who was on duty with Dial 112, received information about the altercation and arrived at the scene with his team to mediate.
During the mediation, a man from one of the parties suddenly attacked ASI Kumar with a sharp weapon, inflicting severe injuries to his head and neck. Following the assault, the accused individual and his family fled the village.
ASI Kumar was rushed to a private hospital by his colleagues. Due to the severity of his injuries, he was later referred to a hospital in Patna, where he succumbed to his wounds during treatment today.
Munger Superintendent of Police (SP) Imran Masood stated that the Dial 112 service had received information about Ranveer Kumar’s family causing a disturbance in Nandlalpur village. Acting on this, SI Santosh Kumar arrived at the scene, where he was attacked. SP Masood confirmed that a case has been registered against the accused, and five individuals, including a woman, have been arrested so far.
In a subsequent development, an encounter took place between the police and ASI attackers. The accused, Guddu Yadav, attempted to flee after his car overturned. During the escape, he tried to seize a weapon from the police officers, prompting the police to fire in self-defence. Yadav was shot in the leg and apprehended.
