5 Arrested in Connection with Attack on Police Team in Bhagalpur; SIT Investigates

Patna: Five individuals have been arrested today in connection with the attack on a police team in Bhagalpur. Their interrogation has commenced, and a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate the matter.

The five accused were apprehended in relation to the assault on the police team in Madhorampur village, under the jurisdiction of Antichak police station in Bhagalpur district. Following the incident, the police administration took stringent measures and established an SIT, which is actively conducting raids and searching for additional suspects.

The incident unfolded when a police team arrived at the scene after receiving reports of a clash between two groups. Upon their arrival, villagers reportedly pelted stones at the officers. As a result, one police officer, three constables, and a watchman sustained injuries. Tragically, one policeman lost his life, and a police vehicle was also damaged.

In response, a case has been registered at Antichak police station against 24 named individuals and 10-15 unidentified persons. On the orders of the Senior Superintendent of Police, the SIT was formed under the leadership of the City Superintendent of Police and the Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Kahalgaon. The team swiftly took action, leading to the arrest of the five accused.

The arrested individuals have been identified as: Nageshwar Mahaldar, Govind Mahaldar, Chhotu Mahaldar, Ravi Kumar and Aman Mahaldar

A case has been filed against 24 named and 10-15 unidentified individuals at Antichak police station. The arrested accused are being remanded to judicial custody.

Raids are ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects. The incident occurred on March 15, 2024 at approximately 7:00 pm. The SIT is led by the SDPO of Kahalgaon and includes Station House Officers (SHOs) from Kahalgaon, Antichak, Shivnarayanpur, Buddhchak, NTPC, and Ekchari police stations.
