Bhagalpur: In connection with the theft of jewellery from a shop located in the Sonapatti area of the city, two burglars involved in the crime were arrested yesterday, respectively from Purnia and Araria districts, by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the district police.
Stolen silver ornaments weighing more than 16 kilogrammes were also recovered by SIT. The burglary was committed on March 4, night. By breaking open the locked grill, the burglars entered the shop and committed theft. As per information, the value of the stolen ornament was approximately Rs 7 lakh.
The owner of the shop, Udhav Sukhdeo Bharte, had lodged an FIR in connection with the theft at Kotwali PS. He had named two people as suspects in connection with the theft.Following receipt of the complainant’s information regarding the theft, the SIT, led by Ajay Kumar Choudhury, City DSP, was constituted on the directive of SSP Anand Kumar.
On the basis of scanned footage from CCTV installed at the place of occurrence and the technical support of the DIU team, the SIT acting swiftly yesterday arrested Ram Prasad Swarnakar and Mukesh Sah, the burglars involved in theft respectively from Purnia and Araria.
In light of information provided by the arrested burglars, the stolen ornaments were recovered from the house of the in-laws of Mukesh Sah, located in Dhama Bhatitari village in Araria district.
Apart from stolen ornaments, Rs 5,900 stolen cash was also recovered by the SIT. The members of SIT included J P Yadav, inspector, Kotwali PS, Devanand Paswan and Dharmendra Kumar Yadav; both ASI were posted at Kotwali PS, along with constables Shambhu Kumar and Nidhi Kumari.
