Patna: Patna’s Saksham Vats showcased his talent by moving into the second round of the boys’ singles event at the 47th National Junior Badminton Championship, being held in Bhubaneswar. The five-day tournament commenced on Thursday and will culminate with the finals on November 25.

In an intense first-round match, Saksham defeated Telangana’s Ashrith with scores of 21-19, 22-20, advancing to the next stage of the competition.

In the U-19 mixed doubles category, the Bihar pair of Kartik and Srija displayed a dominant performance. They outplayed Dev and Muskan with an impressive straight-sets victory, finishing 21-18, 21-08 to secure their place in the second round.

KN Jaiswal, secretary of the Bihar Badminton Association, revealed that a six-member team is representing Bihar in the prestigious event. The team comprises players from various districts, including Kartik and Saksham from Patna, Rishav Raj from Samastipur, Srija from Patna, Suhani Kumari from Muzaffarpur, and Vaibhavi Singh from Katihar.

The championship features some of the most promising young talents from across the country, providing them with a platform to excel and represent their states at a national level. The Bihar contingent, led by its skilled players, aims to make a mark in this fiercely competitive event.

The team’s performance in the early rounds has raised hopes for a strong finish, with players like Saksham and the Kartik-Srija duo setting the stage for a successful campaign.
