Bhagalpur : It may not be too long when central library of Tilka Manjhi Bhagalpur University (TMBU) would start functioning round the clock. The university has already started preparation to this effect.
A decision for opening central library also in night hours was taken by newly appointed Vice Chancellor (VC) Dr Jawhar Lal following his visit to university library on Thursday this week. The decision to keep central library open in night hours was taken primarily to extend student and research scholars reading facility in night hours.
As per some members of university academic circle TMBU would be first university in state to extend such facility to students and research scholars if plan of ensuring round the clock functioning of central library could be successfully implemented by university.
The central library of university having large stock of books and journals including rare books has remained neglected since long. In recent years the number of visitors in library has reduced drastically. The occupancy rate of cubicles made for research scholars have also registered drop in recent years.
The VC in course of his visit to library expressed serious concern over condition of the library. The university officials present on the occasion were directed by him to take immediate steps for restoring lost glory of library, a prized possession of university in past.
Dr Lal took note of the fact that there has been no addition in stock of books and journals in university since 2016. He directed all concerned officials to see to it that functioning of library could be managed professionally besides all required facilities are available in library for students, research scholars and teachers for updating knowledge.
Deepak Kumar Dinkar, public relation officer of university said process of preparing plan for infrastructural development besides renovation and modernization of central library has been initiated by university. The library would start functioning round the clock following successful implementation of the plan, he added.
