Patna: Sports environment in Bihar is going to change completely. Various national level sports are going to be organized from October to February. Aside Bihar, players from different states of the country will get a chance to show their talent in the tournaments. Moreover, old senior players or NIS certified coaches who are looking for jobs will get appointment in Khelo India Small Centre in 31 districts.
Under Khelo India, small centres will be started in 31 districts of the state where training for 17 sports will be given. A coach for this will be appointed soon. This information was given by the Bihar State Sports Authority’s Director General Raveendran Shankaran while addressing the media here on Friday. He said that equipment and players’ kits worth Rs 5 lakh each will be provided to each centre.
Shankaran said that old players or NIS certified players of Bihar will be appointed as coaches at these centres. Their appointment will be for two years. They will be given Rs 25000 monthly. The centre will be day boarding type. At each centre, 30 children in the age group of 12 to 17 will be selected on the basis of trial. They will be selected by the local DSO and coach.
He also said that for the first time, Bihar will host five school national games simultaneously – athletics, weightlifting, cricket, football and sepaktakraw. Work is underway to finalize preparations for the successful hosting of these tournaments to be held from December to February. Cricket will be held at Urja Stadium and Moinul Haq Stadium in Patna.
Volleyball Premier League in February
Bihar is going to organize Volleyball Premier League on the lines of IPL and HSL. A total of eight teams will play in this league. The tender process for their franchise has been completed. There will be 12 players in each team, out of which three players will be from India level while the remaining players in the team will be from Bihar. To encourage the players, cash will also be given to the players. The team will be formed in the month of December under the supervision of Team India coach Sreedharan. Apart from Patna, league matches will also be held in Chapra, Begusarai and Bhagalpur.
Traditional game of Bihar which has a golden history is on the verge of extinction. There is an attempt to bring it to life. That game is Dangal will be launched in Sonepur in November. Male and female wrestlers from outside Bihar have also been invited in this tournament.
Shankaran said that Bihar will also participate in the national games to be held in Goa. For this, a two-month training camp is going to be organized from September 18 at Patliputra Sports Complex, NTPC Barh and IIT Patna. The teams of Sepaktakraw, Kabaddi, Rugby, Pitoh, Archery and Handball will be included.
