Punjab prove too good for Bihar in 67th National School Games Under-17 Cricket Championship

Patna: Punjab defeated host Bihar by nine wickets in the 67th National School Games Under-17 Cricket Championship, hosted by Bihar State Sports Authority, which started from Tuesday.

In other matches, Chandigarh, NVS, Delhi and Karnataka won their respective matches.

Chandigarh defeated CISCE by 103, NVS defeated Chhattisgarh by 6 wickets, Delhi defeated Maharashtra by 8 wickets while Karnataka defeated Puducherry by 3 wickets.

Bihar vs Punjab

In this match played at Patna’s Urja Stadium, Bihar won the toss and, batting first scored 105 runs for nine wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Punjab team won the match by scoring 106 runs for 1 wicket in 14 overs. Punjab’s Suraj was given the Player of the Match award.

Chandigarh vs CISCE

In the match played at Railway Stadium, Sonpur, Chandigarh, after winning the toss and batting first, scored 120 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, CISCE team was all out for 77 runs in 19.2 overs. Aditya Gusain (83 runs, two wickets) of the winning team was awarded the Player of the Match award.

Chhattisgarh vs NVS

In this match played at Jagjivan Stadium, Chhattisgarh won the toss and batted first and scored 174 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, NVS team won the match by scoring 177 runs for four wickets in 19.5 overs. Prafulla Kumar Singh, who played a century for NVS, became the player of the match.

Maharashtra vs Delhi

Delhi won the toss and invited Maharashtra to bat. Maharashtra, batting first, scored 79 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Delhi won the match by scoring 80 runs for two wickets in 12 overs. Vivaan Jindal became the player of the match.

In this match played at Jagjivan Stadium, Karnataka won the toss and decided to field first. Batting first, Puducherry scored 158 runs for four wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Karnataka won the match by scoring 159 runs for 7 wickets in 18.3 overs. Vijay Bandi of the winning team was given the Player of the Match award.

Earlier, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav formally inaugurated the 67th National School Games Cricket Championship 2023-24  at the Urja Stadium.

After the inauguration, while congratulating the players and all the people present, Tejashwi Yadav said that SGFI has given Bihar the opportunity to host five sports for the first time, it is a matter of great happiness and pride for all of us. I have been a player and used to stand in the field in competitions just like you. It is very important for a player to remain physically and mentally strong; only then can he give his best performance.

Tejashwi Yadav further said that the Bihar government is making every possible effort for the all-round development of sports and players in the state. You people have come here from every corner of the country to play, and I request that you play with all your heart and bring glory to your state and country by performing your best. You just focus on sports; the government will take full care of all your facilities.

Bihar Sports Minister Jitendra Kumar Rai said in his address that the government is continuously making efforts for the betterment of sports and players in Bihar, and its positive results are also visible. Recently, the government has created a separate sports department for the development of sports, for which I especially thank the honorable Chief Minister and honorable Deputy Chief Minister.
