Gaya: Lord Buddha Badminton Academy, Bihar’s first state-of-the-art private badminton academy with international standards, was inaugurated on Monday at the hands of former international badminton player and Asian Games bronze medallist Pradeep Gandhe at Delhi Public School (DPS) Gaya campus.
Magadh Sports Society, a state registered NGO, will run the academy in association with Bihar Badminton Association and DPS Gaya. At present a month-long intensive training camp for top-notch shuttlers of Bihar from all categories is going on at the academy. Gandhe was also introduced to the Bihar players.
Giving brief details of the academy, Bihar Badminton Association (BBA) secretary KN Jaiswal said that at present there were four courts and by July four more courts will be ready. Further, the academy has swimming pool, high-tech gymnasium and hostel.
The academy and Bihar Badminton Association has tied up with the DPS Gaya to nurture and groom budding talents of Bihar badminton in this academy. The boys and girls selected for this academy will get education in the DPS at subsidised fee and they will also get the boarding and lodging facilities in the hostel at subsidised cost.
Jaiswal said that efficient coaches will provide training to the players. The BBA is also trying to rope in Li-Ning for this academy.
