Patna: IIT Patna had signed a MoU with National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) on October 11 to take up the various activities of common interest such as sharing knowledge on innovative ideas and technologies in the field of highway engineering.
In this regard, Chanchal Kumar, MD, NHIDCL along with Trivendra Kumar, GM, NHIDCL and Vivekanand Jaiswal, DGM, NHIDCL visited the IIT Patna on October 28.
Prof. T N Singh, Director, IIT Patna welcomed the NHIDCL team. Chanchal Kumar highlighted the challenges NHIDCL is facing during and after the construction of highways in hilly terrains in terms of stability of mountain slopes. The difficulties in construction and safety of the new or existing structures on numerous river/streams in North-Eastern States were discussed.
Heads of Department of Civil and Environmental, Electrical and Mechanical Engineering presented ongoing related projects and innovative ideas to improve the highway construction in such regions. Prof T N Singh said, IIT Patna would be glad to extend all possible technical support for design, analysis and investigation in the domain of geotechnical investigation, geological study, rock slope engineering, underground excavations, slope stability, ground subsidence and sinking, transportation engineering, etc. in developing various highway projects. IIT Patna will help NHIDCL during conceptualization, design and project preparation of new projects and suggest the relevant parameters and innovations based on experience specific to the site climate, topography and resource potential for better socio-economic outcome.
