Nawaz’s fifer helps Bihar gain first innings lead over Manipur

Patna: Despite gaining a first innings lead of 209 runs, Bihar did enforce a follow on Manipur and decided to bat in the second innings. At the end of the third day’s play of the five-day final match of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group, Bihar were 156 for 6 when the stumps were drawn for the day at the Moinul Haq Stadium here on Friday. With this, Bihar had increased its lead to 365 runs.

Based on the match’s progress, Bihar are in a commanding position, and the five-day match will undoubtedly produce a result. But keeping in view the tremendous fightback attitude of Manipur that they showed in the semi-final of the Plate Group, it can be said that the match is poised for an exciting finish.

Earlier, resuming the day at 194/6, the last four batsmen of Manipur took the team’s score to 337 before being all out. The tailenders added 143 runs. Overnight, not out batsman Kishan Singha scored 36 runs while Jotin Pheiroijam stroked in 68 useful runs.

Nawaz took five wickets for 82 runs in 20 overs for Bihar.

In the second innings, Bihar batting was also on the brink of collapse against the bowling of Kishan Singha but a defiant 84 not out by Sachin Kumar Singh saved the day for Bihar. Sachin’s not out: 84 came off 106 balls with 10 hits to the fence. Kishan Singha was the pick of the Manipur bowlers, as he grabbed five wickets for 34 runs off 20 overs.
