Patna: Prithvi Raj’s impressive unbeaten century (134 not out) helped Bihar reach 235 for 8 in their second innings, gaining a lead of 177 runs against Assam on the second day of the Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 match in Barpeta, Assam. Suman Kumar is currently supporting Prithvi Raj at the crease with 5 runs. This century marks Prithvi Raj’s first in a BCCI tournament.
Assam began the day at 112 for 8 in their first innings and added only 16 more runs before being all out for 128. Bihar, who managed only 70 runs in their first innings, faced a shaky start in their second innings as well.
For Assam, notable contributions included Parwal Kalita’s 40 and Julian Konwar’s 18. Bihar’s bowlers performed effectively, with Aditya Raj taking 3 wickets for 28 runs and Suman Kumar also claiming 3 wickets for 27. Kumari Tejaswi Yadav and Satyam Kumar provided further support with two and one wickets, respectively.
Bihar’s second innings started poorly, losing opener Agastya for 13 runs with the team at 19. Wickets continued to fall, and both Dipesh Gupta and Mohammad Alam were dismissed for low scores. Opener Aditya Sinha gave some stability with a 13-run partnership alongside Prithvi Raj before being dismissed for 29.
Prithvi Raj, however, held firm, building partnerships with Taufiq, Aditya Raj, Satyam, and Suman Kumar, who all played supporting roles to keep him on strike. Prithvi played a magnificent innings, scoring 134 not out off 170 balls with 17 fours and 4 sixes.
Brief contributions from the lower order included Mohammad Taufiq’s 9 runs off 41 balls, Aditya Raj’s 6 runs off 31 balls, and Satyam’s 12 runs off 43 balls. Suman Kumar remained not out with 5 runs off 42 balls, supporting Prithvi as Bihar ended the day on a positive note.
For Assam, Harsh Kumar and Mohit Thakur took 3 wickets each, with Harsh conceding 44 runs and Mohit 71. Ayushman Malakar and Prithviraj Kashyap picked up one wicket each, both giving away 29 runs.
