Maharashtra, Karnataka register victories in Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship

New Delhi: The action in the 13th Hockey India Sub Junior Women National Championship 2023 continued today with Hockey Bihar, Hockey Maharashtra, and Hockey Karnataka registering wins in their respective games on Day 2 of the tournament which is being played at the Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Odisha.

In the first match of the day, Hockey Bihar came from behind to beat Telangana Hockey 4-1 in the Pool G game. Khushi Kumari (6’), Sonam Kumari (36’), Akansha Yadav (41’), and Rishu Kumari (52’) scored a goal each for Hockey Bihar, while Mallela Nikhitha (2’) netted the lone goal for Telangana Hockey.

The second game of the day witnessed Hockey Maharashtra registering a comprehensive 11-0 win against Dadra & Nagar Haveli and Daman & Diu Hockey in the Pool H match. Sanjana Raikwar (12’, 14’, 15’, 20’, 26’, 27’) ended the game as top scorer with six goals to her name, while Yashasvi Prakash Kubde (52’, 56’) netted a brace. Savitri Boragalli (10’), Akanksha Pal (34’), and Tanishka Sanjay Shinde (49’) also scored a goal each.

Meanwhile, Hockey Karnataka beat Le Puducherry Hockey 8-0 in the third game of the day. Vyshnavi Arul (3’, 15’) and Manish Ponnamma CD (19’, 39’) scored a brace each while Lakshmi (37’), Deepika R (43’), Punya S.R (47’), and Thanisha R (58’) also found the back of the net.

Notably, later in the day, Hockey Mizoram will take on Hockey Rajasthan in the Pool E match.

Also, on Thursday, Hockey Association of Odisha defeated Kerala Hockey 20-0 in the fourth and last match of the Day 1 of the tournament. Doli Bhoi scored five goals (15’, 24’, 29’, 38’, 55’), while Dipika Barwa (10’, 26, 54’) and Jyoti Xaxa (19’, 25, 60’) netted a hat-trick each. Moreover, Binati Minz (6’, 35’) and Karuna Minz (40’, 41’) scored a brace each, while Sonali Ekka (2’), Drupati Naik (13’), Nisha Dadel (18’), Janhabi Bada (28’), and Amisha Ekka (44’) were also on the scoresheet.
