PATNA: Rashtriya Janta Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad on Wednesday said a “united opposition will dethrone the BJP government at the Centre in 2024 Lok Sabha elections”.
Addressing the RJD state council meeting here, Prasad said he would soon visit Delhi along with Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar to meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi.
An ailing Prasad, who has been out of public galore lately, said Sonia Gandhi had now returned from abroad. “We will meet her. Once Rahul Gandhi returns to Delhi (from Bharat Jodo Yatra), we will also meet him,” he added.
Yadav’s son and Bihar deputy chief minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav and senior party leader Sharad Yadav were also present in the meeting.
Terming the BJP as a “party of rioters,” he said every party had bowed before it, but I did not. “Had I also had bowed before it, I would not have gone to jail,” he said.
“I stand firmly on my ideology. Many parties have compromised with the BJP, but I have neither bowed down nor will I ever bow down. BJP is our biggest enemy,” he added.
LALU TO FILE PAPERS FOR RJD CHIEF’S POST
Lalu Prasad will soon file nomination papers for the post of national president of the Rashtriya Janata Dal. He is likely to be elected chief of the party he founded for the 12th time, party sources said.
Prasad, who is currently staying in Patna, is likely to file his nomination papers on September 28 at the party office. The election for party national president is scheduled on October 9 in New Delhi.
A formal announcement of his election will be made at the RJD national council meeting to be held in the national capital.
