Patna: India claimed the gold medal in the men’s regu event of the Sepak Takraw World Cup defeating Japan 2-1 at the Patliputra Sports Complex on Tuesday. Japan took home the silver medal. In the women’s regu event, Thailand claimed gold, while Vietnam secured silver, and India earned bronze.
This edition of the tournament saw India break its previous record, winning a total of seven medals—one gold, one silver, and five bronze—surpassing their tally of five medals in the last World Cup. The six-day event concluded today with a grand ceremony.
Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister, Samrat Chaudhary, and Sports Minister, Surendra Mehta, presented the trophies and medals to the winners. The chief guest, Deputy CM Chaudhary, along with special guest Sports Minister Mehta and Olympian Shreyasi Singh, honoured and encouraged the victorious athletes and teams. Also in attendance were Additional Chief Secretary of the Sports Department, B. Rajender; Director General and CEO of the Bihar State Sports Authority, Raveendran Sankaran; Director of the Sports Department, Mahendra Kumar; Director of the Bihar State Sports Authority, Ravindra Nath Chaudhary; Secretary-General of the International Sepak Takraw Federation, Datuk Abdul Halim Kadir; President of the Sepak Takraw Federation of India, Yogendra Singh Dahiya; Treasurer Dr. Karunesh; and other dignitaries.
