Eastern Railway Starts Campaign to Prevent Incidents of Cattle Runover

Bhagalpur: Concerned over alarming rise in incidents of cattle runover on railway tracks, efforts have been stepped up by railways to prevent such incidents, initiating a campaign aimed at creating awareness among people.

Taking into consideration chances of accident due to cattle runover cannot be totally ruled out, the engineering section and Railway Protection Force (RPF) have jointly started awareness campaign in Malda division of Eastern Railway.

The sections from where maximum incidents of cattle runover have been reported have been identified for the purpose. Bhagalpur-Tikani, Kahalgaon -Ekchari, Sahibganj-Karamtola and Maharajpur-Sakrigali are among the identified sections.

In all the aforesaid sections campaign aiming at educating both locals and commuters about need of preventing cattle from straying on railway track was started today.

The railway and RPF personnels in course of campaign told people of villages located adjoining railway tracks that for safety of passengers and cattle it is essential the cattle owners do the needful to prevent their cattle stock from straying on railway track and keeping them at a safe distance from railway track.

Pamphlets consisting guidelines for preventing cattle related accidents written in local language was distributed among people in course of campaign. People were also made aware about provisions of railway act concerning cattle straying on railway track.
