Gopalganj: Delhi clinched a grand double by winning the men’s and women’s titles of the 44th Senior National Throwball Championship at Smart Move Academy courts in Panchdeori block of Gopalganj district of Bihar on Tuesday.
Hosts Bihar lost to Odisha in the third place match in the men’s section. In the women’s category, the runner-up team was Tamil Nadu, while in the men’s category, the runner-up team was Madhya Pradesh. The third position in the women’s section went to Karnataka, and the third position in the men’s section went to Odisha.
In the women’s final, Delhi defeated Tamil Nadu 15-12, 8-15, 15-10. In the third place match, Karnataka defeated Madhya Pradesh 15-7, 15-10.
Delhi defeated Madhya Pradesh 15-7, 15-12 in the men’s final. Odisha defeated Bihar 15-8,15-8 in the third place match.
Earlier, in the women’s semi-finals, Delhi defeated Karnataka 15-7, 15-122, Tamil Nadu defeated Madhya Pradesh 15-4, 15-2.
In the men’s section, Delhi defeated Odisha 15-5, 15-10 and Madhya Pradesh defeated Bihar 15-1, 15-1 in the semi-finals to enter the final.
Mohit of Delhi and Bula Joy of Tamil Nadu were awarded the Player of the Tournament award.
Manish Kumar Srivastava, Block Development Officer, Panchdeori Block, Neeraj Kumar Pappu, Secretary, Throwball Association of Bihar, Rahul Sinha, Organising Secretary, Naveen, Shakti Sinha of Aakash Institute awarded the players.
Many dignitaries, including Bihar BJP Vice President and former MLA Mithilesh Tiwari, Kushinagar BJP leader Prem Chandra Mishra, reached the venue to encourage the players.
At the closing ceremony, the students of Smart Move Academy put on a cultural programme that blew everyone away.
