Patna: The much-anticipated CK Nayudu Trophy U23 match between Bihar and Mumbai commenced today at the Sachin Tendulkar Gymkhana, Kandivali, Mumbai. Both teams displayed commendable performances, leaving the match evenly poised after the first day.
Batting first, Bihar posted a total of 264 runs in 63.1 overs. Deepak anchored the innings with a well-crafted 75, combining steady defence with aggressive strokes. Suraj Kashyap provided valuable support, contributing 53 runs. Other key contributors included Ankit Rai (38) and Suraj Vijay (35). However, the lower order faltered, preventing Bihar from pushing their score further.
Mumbai’s bowlers impressed, with Dhanit Raut and Atharva Bhosale picking up four wickets each. Suryansh and Himanshu chipped in with a wicket apiece, ensuring Bihar’s innings ended prematurely.
In response, Mumbai began aggressively, scoring 90 for 2 in just 16 overs by stumps. Ayush Mathre played a stabilising knock of 52, blending patience with attacking intent. However, Manish Kumar’s disciplined bowling disrupted Mumbai’s start. He dismissed Angkrish Raghuvanshi for 22 and Ayush Mathre for 52, finishing the day with figures of 2 wickets.
At the close of play, Manan Bhat (5*) and Atharva Bhosale (7*) were unbeaten at the crease, with Mumbai needing 174 runs to surpass Bihar’s total.
Manish Kumar was the standout bowler for Bihar, troubling the batsmen with his pace and accuracy. His performance could prove decisive as the match progresses into the second day.
The opening day saw a balanced contest between bat and ball. While Bihar’s Deepak and Suraj Kashyap laid a solid foundation, Mumbai fought back through Ayush Mathre’s half-century and their bowlers’ effectiveness. The stage is now set for an intriguing second day.
