Bihar kho-kho rewrites history; selection trial for junior state team held on mat

Patna: Under the joint aegis of Kho-Kho Association of Bihar and Lakhisarai District Kho-Kho Association, the selection trial of Bihar Junior Kho-Kho boys/girls team was organised at St Mary’s School, Suryagarha in Lakhisarai on Monday. This was the first time that the selection trial of the Kho-Kho team in Bihar was held on the mat.

It was a historic day for Bihar kho kho as the boys and girls displayed their skills on the mat instead of clay ground. The modern kho kho has changed a lot since the inception of Ultimate Kho- Kho League. Now, this traditional Indian game has become modern also in Bihar.

Neeraj Kumar Pappu, general secretary of Kho-Kho Association of Bihar was the chief guest at the selection trials. Parimal Kumar, sports officer of Lakhisarai District Kho-Kho Association was the special guest. Pappu along with Parimal Kumar and other distinguished guests such as senior sports expert Sachitanand Pandey, Sudarshan Prasad Singh, vice president of Lakhisarai District Kho-Kho Association Sunil Kumar Singh jointly inaugurated the trials by cutting the ribbon, lighting the lamp and breaking coconut.

The function was presided over by Tijo Thomas, president of Lakhisarai District Kho-Kho Association. Amit Kumar, secretary of Lakhisarai District Kho-Kho Association proposed a vote of thanks.

Neeraj Kumar Pappu, general secretary of Kho-Kho Association of Bihar, said that for the first time in Bihar, Kho-Kho game was organised on mats. In future, we will also organise state championships on mats. He said the credit goes to Indian Kho-Kho Federation President Sudhanshu Mittal and General Secretary MS Tyagi. All the players participating in this selection trial were given dress by the organising committee.

Boys and girls players and technical referees from 33 districts took part in this selection trial. The Bihar team formed on the basis of this selection trial will participate in the 41st Junior National Kho-Kho Championship (Boys and Girls) 2022-23 to be held in West Bengal.
