Patna: Bihar’s Soni won the bronze medal in the women’s (under-18 years) discuss throw event of the 37th National Junior Athletics Championship being held in Guwahati. Soni missed the sliver medal by 93 cm and gold medal by 1.05m.
Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority (BSSA), Raveendran Sankaran said that just eight months ago, Soni was nowhere in the medal race at Khelo India. “The BSSA provided the facility of training to Soni well for three consecutive months under the guidance of Olympic champion Bahadur Singh. The silver medal is the result of Soni’s hard work and better training j“, he said.
Bihar Art, Culture and Youth Department minister Jitendra Kumar Rai, department’s secretary Bandana Preyshi, Secretary BSSA DG Raveendran Sankaran congratulated Soni for her achievement in the Nationals.
Meanwhile, another Bihar athlete Piyush Kumar won the silver medal in hexathlon event of the Junior National Athletics in Guwahati. He collected 3453 points to win the silver medal.
According to BSSA DG Raveendran Sankaran, the state government had sent Piyush to Hyedrabad for training under the guidance of Ramesh ji, the coach of Dutee Chand.
