Bhagalpur Police Register Major Success in Drive Against Traffickers

Bhagalpur: The local police have registered major success in their drive against traffickers involved in the trafficking of intoxicants. Police recovered a total of 163200 opium tablets and 34250 bottles of prohibited cough syrup stockpiled here by traffickers for sale at the local level as well as in neighboring districts.

A total of five traffickers, including noted criminal Pappu Sonar involved in the trafficking of intoxicants, were arrested in the course of the raid. A bike was also confiscated by police during the raid conducted for the recovery of intoxicants.

The local police, it may be mentioned, had launched a drive recently in a bid toy bust the gang involved in the trafficking of intoxicants. With information that an organized gang was involved in the trafficking of drugs, the drive aimed at mounting pressure on traffickers was started. The intoxicants were recovered following overnight raids conducted on the intervening nights of January 18 and 19.

Anand Kumar, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) gave details about the major recovery of intoxicants at a press conference last evening and said the market price of recovered opium tablets and banned cough syrup is in crores.

He said the intoxicants were brought here by traffickers from Faizabad, Barbanki,Varanasi along with other districts of Uttar Pradesh for selling them in this district and other neighbouring districts.

Those arrested in connection with trafficking include Pappu Sonar alias Amit Sah and Pappu Mishra both residents of Tatarpur PS area, Gurav Kesan, resident of Asarganj in Munger district, Raj Kumar Singh, resident of Kotwali PS area besides Mukesh Paldi, resident of Hanumangarh district in Rajasthan, SSP informed. He added in light of a secret information separate teams were constituted for recovery of intoxicant.

Following major recovery of intoxicants, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has been approached by local police authorities. For examination of the recovered intoxicants with more precision and also for identifying traffickers of other state involved in the network the NCB has been approached.

Total four police teams constituted for conducting raid were respectively led by Ajay Kumar Choudhury, City DSP, Ashok Kumar, Inspector, Isakchak, Sanjay Kumar Sudhanshu, Inspector, Law and Order Circle and Jawahar Prasad Yadav, SHO, Kotwali PS.
