Gopalganj: The Minj Stadium in Gopalganj is abuzz with the excitement of the Asmita Khelo India Women’s Kho-Kho League (Junior and Sub-Junior categories). This three-day league, hosted by the Gopalganj District Administration in collaboration with the Bihar State Sports Authority and Kho-Kho Association of Bihar, commenced with a vibrant opening ceremony.
The event was inaugurated by Gopalganj District Magistrate Prashant Kumar CH (IAS), Deputy Development Commissioner Kumar Nishant (IAS), and secretaries of the Bihar and Jharkhand Kho-Kho Associations, Neeraj Kumar Pappu and Santosh Prasad, respectively. The dignitaries met the players, introduced the teams, and initiated the league with the ceremonial toss.
Day 1 Highlights
The opening day witnessed some gripping matches:
- Junior Category:
- Maharashtra outclassed Punjab with a commanding 36–18 victory. Maharashtra’s Sohani Dhotre shone as the standout player, excelling both in raiding and defence. She scored vital points and spent an impressive 4 minutes and 15 seconds defending, securing her team’s win.
- Delhi edged out Bengal in a nail-biting match, winning 31–25. Shubhangi from Delhi was declared the best player for her exceptional performance.
- Sub-Junior Category:
- Delhi defeated Gujarat decisively, 38–14. Shraddha of Delhi emerged as the star raider, scoring 8 points and defending for 1 minute and 50 seconds.
- Karnataka dominated Madhya Pradesh, securing a comprehensive 36–6 victory. Karnataka’s Ningamma was a key player, scoring 8 points and showcasing stellar defensive skills by staying on the court for the full three minutes. Despite the loss, Madhya Pradesh’s Vanshika displayed promising talent.

During the inauguration, District Magistrate Prashant Kumar CH interacted with the players, emphasising discipline and assuring the district administration’s support for their needs. He held a special conversation with Vanshika, captain of the Madhya Pradesh sub-junior team, lauding her presence as a testament to the abundant talent in the country.
