Arwal register second successive victory

Sonepur, June 2: Arwal secured their second consecutive win in the Patliputra Zone of the Shyamal Sinha Inter District Under-16 Cricket Tournament, held under the aegis of the Bihar Cricket Association at the local railway stadium. In the match played on Sunday, Arwal defeated Saran by 6 wickets.

Saran won the toss and chose to bat first. Their innings started poorly with the first wicket falling at just 17 runs. Opener Rehan Aslam was dismissed for a mere 1 run. However, Manish Kumar and Hrithik Yadav steadied the innings with a crucial partnership of 74 runs. Manish Kumar scored 55 runs off 46 balls, including 9 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed. Following his departure, Saran’s wickets fell at regular intervals, and the team was all out for 140 runs in 26.2 overs. Hrithik Yadav contributed 33 runs off 36 balls with 7 fours, while Tanishq Srivastava added 15 runs.

For Arwal, Atul Raj and Mohammad Kaif took three wickets each, while Avinash Kumar claimed two. Vaibhav Shashi Raj and Sachin Singh chipped in with one wicket each.

Chasing a target of 141 runs, Arwal’s openers Yash Raj and Utsav Kumar provided a solid start with a 40-run partnership. Arwal lost their first wicket with the score at 40, and soon after, Utsav Kumar was also dismissed, leaving the team at 51 for 2. Yash Raj scored 22 runs off 16 balls with 4 fours, while Utsav Kumar made 12 runs off 16 balls with 2 fours.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Devraj and Lavkesh then took Arwal’s innings forward. Lavkesh was nearing his half-century but was caught by Ujjwal Singh off Deeptanshu Verma for 46 runs, which included 7 fours and 1 six off 36 balls. Devraj, supported by Ankit Raj, guided Arwal to victory. Ankit Raj scored 19 runs off 21 balls with 3 fours. Arwal reached 143 for 4 wickets in 20.2 overs, with Devraj remaining unbeaten on 25 runs off 33 balls with 4 fours.

From Saran’s side, Deeptanshu Verma took 2 wickets, while Manish and Aakar took 1 wicket each.
