Patna: Under the aegis of the MP Verma Foundation, the All India Prize Money Invitational MP Verma Memorial Cricket Tournament will be organised from April 12 at Urja Stadium here. This information was given by Aditya Verma, Secretary of the MP Verma Foundation.
He said that this tournament will continue until April 21. Four teams—Bengal, Jharkhand, the defending champion MP Verma Foundation XI, and the remaining Bihar XI—will participate in this tournament. The match will be played on the basis of a round-robin league of 40-40 overs. Each team will get three matches. The final match will be played between the top two teams of the league on April 21.
In each match, the winning team will be given a cash prize of Rs 10,000, and the runner-up team will be given Rs 5,000. The winning team of the final match will be given a trophy and Rs 31,000, and the runner up team will be given Rs 15,000. In each match, the man of the match will be given Rs 1000, the man of the final match will be given Rs 1500, and the man of the tournament will get a trophy and Rs 2500.
The chief guest for the final match will be Surendra Amarnath, (former Test cricketer), son of Lala Amarnath. Former cricket player Surendra Khanna, former Union minister Subodh Kant Sahay, and Trinamool MP Shatrughan Sinha will be the special guests.
On April 12, Bihar’s DG of Vigilance, Alok Raj, will officially start the first match. The opening match will be played between MP Verma XI and the Jharkhand, Jamshedpur teams. Before this, a coaching camp for some talented cricket players of Bihar will be organised by the MP Verma Foundation under the guidance of former international cricketer Surendra Khanna at Urja Stadium from April 7.
In the previous editions of this tournament, Indian cricket team captain Dilip Vengsarkar, Mohd Azharuddin, and Surendra Khanna were the chief guests.
He said that this tournament is recognised by the Bihar Cricket Association. Players like Bihar senior team members Ashutosh Aman, Sakibul Gani, Sachin Singh, Vipin Saurabh, Yashasvi Rishabh, Lakhan Raja, and Prashant Kumar Singh had shown their talents in previous editions of the tournament.
