PATNA: Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) MLA Anil Kumar Sahni was disqualified from the Bihar assembly on Friday, more than a month after a Delhi court awarded him three-year jail term in the LTC scam case.

A notification issued by Bihar Vidhan Sabha said Sahni, who represented Kurhani assembly seat, had been disqualified “with effect from the date of conviction and sentence”.

A court at Rouse Avenue in New Delhi had convicted Sahni and two others on August 29 and sentenced them to three-year imprisonment two days later after holding them guilty of attempting to avail travel allowance in 2012 using forged Air India e-tickets without having undertaken the journeys.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which probed the case, alleged in the chargesheet, filed in 2015, that Sahni, then Janata Dal (United) member of Rajya Sabha, and others had submitted claims of Rs 23.71 lakh.

Sahani is the second RJD MLA to have been disqualified from the assembly within a few months. In July, Mokama MLA Anant Kuamr Singh was disqualified following his conviction by a Patna court in a case relating to recovery of arms and explosives from his residence.

In July, Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh was disqualified after a special court sentenced him to 10-years imprisonment in in a case related to recovery of arms from his residence.

With the disqualification of Sahani, the RJD’s strength in the Bihar legislative assembly has come down to 78, just one more than the BJP.
