Patna: Jharkhand opened their account in the Cooch Behar Trophy with a commanding eight-wicket victory over Bihar on the third day of the match at the Moinul Haq Stadium on Friday. Bihar will now face Rajasthan in their next match in Patna, starting on 28 December.
In the first innings, Bihar scored 154 runs, while Jharkhand managed a lead with 189 runs. Bihar resumed their second innings at 80 for 5 on the third day and were bowled out for 121. Jharkhand, set a target of just 87 runs, reached 89 for 2 in 29.2 overs to seal the win.
For Bihar, Deepesh Gupta top-scored with 30, followed by Gautam Kumar with 26. Other contributions came from Ayush Raj (13), Anubhav Singh (17), Prithvi Raj (13), and lower-order batters who struggled to add significant runs. Suman Kumar remained unbeaten without scoring.
Bihar’s Aditya Raj shone with the ball, claiming two wickets for 26 runs in Jharkhand’s second innings, bringing his match tally to seven wickets. Despite his efforts, Jharkhand’s Krish Sharma (40 not out) and Vivek Kumar (37 not out) guided their team to victory after an early wobble.
For Jharkhand, bowlers Tanish and Ishan Om excelled, taking five wickets each across the match.
This emphatic victory marks a strong start for Jharkhand in the tournament, while Bihar will look to regroup ahead of their next challenge.
