Varanasi, July 17: A seven-day training programme organised by the Indian Institute of Technology (Banaras Hindu University) and Indian Institute of Technology ISM, Dhanbad jointly under the aegis of DST and STUTI scheme, concluded here on Sunday. The training program was held on the subject ‘Advanced Instrumental Techniques’ at Civil Engineering Department of IIT-BHU.
Inaugurating the programme, chief guest professor Vikas Kumar Dubey, dean research and development said that this training program is an initiative by DST, Government of India to educate and train on the fundamental and practical knowledge of various tools related to various fields of science and technology.
He said that the Department of Science and Technology (DST) intends to provide human resource by arranging training programs through open access science and technology infrastructure across the country under the banner of ‘Synergistic Training program Utilizing the Scientific & Technological Infrastructure (STUTI)’ to build knowledge capacity.
In the closing ceremony, guest of honour professor Shyam Bihari Dwivedi, dean academic affairs said that the present proposed program is to impart knowledge on some advanced instrumental techniques used in various civil engineering projects. This module is beneficial for researchers actively engaged in research or consultancy work. The participants have been trained through classroom teaching as well as laboratory demonstration of each instrument. Therefore, the practical operating procedures and interpretation of the analysis results for each instrumental technique are discussed in detail.
Prof Sharat Kumar Das, Dr Pavitra Ranjan Maiti, Dr Supriya Mohanty of Civil Engineering Department of IIT -BHU were the programme coordinators. Research scholars, industry persons, faculty members from AICTE approved engineering colleges participated in this programme.
Speaking on the occasion Dr Pavitra Ranjan Maity said that STUTI scheme works on hub and spoke model where IIT (ISM) Dhanbad will act as hub. As per the terms, IIT(ISM) Dhanbad would organise a total of 22 training programmes, out of which 16 programmes would be organised in other universities/institutes on a spoke model, which also have the FIST/PURSE/CURIE/SAIF/SATHI supported sophisticated instruments. Each training session will be of seven days and 30 participants can be accommodated.
