Patna, July 16: Bihar State Under-11 (Boys and Girls) Chess Championships got off to a clolourful start at the Youth Hostel Hall here on Saturday. The tournament is being organised under the aegis of All Bihar Chess Association.. On the first day of this two-day event, young chess players showed great talent on the chessboard.
In the Under-11 boys section, four players, including national champion Ryan Mohamad, were jointly on top with three points each at the end of three rounds. In today’s final round, the top four boards won their respective matches with Ryan Mohammad, Pratyush Kumar, Yatharth Nathani and Tejas Shandilya were maintaining their lead.
On the other hand, Shalini surged into the lead in the girls’ section with three points winning the match against top seed Shalini Srivastava and Nandini Jha. On the other hand, Abhishree Deepu and Dhanvi Karmakar were at joint second place with 2.5 points.
Earlier, the championship was inaugurated by Rajendra Kumar, senior vice president of All Bihar Chess Association and Ajit Kumar Singh, convener of Ad-hoc Committee, Patna District Chess Association by playing chess with young players. On this occasion, vice president of All Bihar Chess Association Jaiprakash Sinha, joint secretary Vipal Subhashi, Shivpriya Bhardwaj, arbiter Alok Priyadarshi, Priyanka Kumari and many other officials and other dignitaries were present. The inauguration ceremony was conducted by chief arbiter Nand Kishore while the vote of thanks was proposed by deputy chief arbiter Iqbal Alam.
