Patna: Under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association, the Yashwant Chaudhary Memorial Bihar State Senior Chess Championship began on Sunday at Bhavya Resort, Dalsinghsarai, Samastipur. The tournament is being hosted by the Samastipur District Chess Association.
The additional district magistrate of Samastipur, Ajay Kumar Tiwari, inaugurated the tournament by playing a board with Pratyush, the budding player of the state. 120 players (including 67 FIDE rated players) from 26 districts are participating in the tournament.
All Bihar Chess Association (ABCA) secretary Dharmendra Kumar, District Sports Officer Akash Srivastava, circle officer, Dalsinghsarai, Rajeev Ranjan, circle officer, Vidyapatinagar, Udayakant Mishra, former secretary of All Bihar Chess Association Ajit Kumar Singh, vice president Jai Prakash Sinha, and joint secretary Shashinand attended the inauguration ceremony. Apart from the main sponsors, Jayant Chaudhary of Bhavya Resort, Balwant Kumar Chaudhary, Prof. Umesh Chandra Prasad Singh, Suresh Chowdhary, councillor Sushil Kumar Surekha, former councillor Chandan Prasad, Prabhakar Chowdhary, and Khatwant Kumar Chowdhary, many dignitaries and sports lovers were present on the occasion.
After the end of the first round,almost all the seeded players had won their respective matches. Along with top seeded Samastipur’s Vikash Chandra Sharma, postal department’s Sudhir Kumar Sinha and Vijay Kumar, experienced veterans of Patna like YP Srivastava, Vipal Subhashi, and Vivek Sharma started their victory campaign.
