Patna: “Players from Bihar have the talent to play at the national and international level, they just need to be identified and nurtured with good training”, said Arjuna and Dronacharya Awardee international volleyball player and current national volleyball coach GE Sreedharan while talking to reporters at Pataliputra Sports Complex on Monday.
Sreedharan came to Bihar in connection with the volleyball talent search camp organised by the Bihar State Sports Authority to select the talented players of Bihar at an early age and prepare them for the national and international level through better training.
Sreedharan was in Tata Steel Jamshedpur in undivided Bihar and played for Bihar. He represented the country in volleyball many times at the international level and won many medals.
Expressing happiness over the efforts being made by the Bihar Sports Authority and the Bihar government, Sreedharan said that Bihar government has provided such a better platform to find and groom talented players, as well as there is a greater need for better and trained coaches.
Director General of Bihar State Sports Authority Raveendran Sankaran said that for the first time Sreedharan has come to Bihar to train the players. Bihar players are lucky to get training under him. Bihar State Sports Authority and Government of Bihar are committed and continuously striving for the development of sports and players in Bihar, he added.
About 400 players from all over Bihar had participated in the talent scouting camp. Out of which Sreedharan has selected 24 players from both the age groups (12-14, 15-18) for further training. Sreedharan has also promised to take 6 players to his training camp in Coimbatore and train them under his supervision and send them directly to the national camp.
