Vipal Subhashi crowned Bihar Senior Chess Champ 

Patna: Vipal Subhashi of Patna defeated his citymate Mohd Tabasir Alam of Patna to win the Bihar State Senior Chess Championship at Dalsinghsarai in Samastipur on Wednesday. Vipal collected 7.5 points in the nine-round tournament. The tournament was hosted by the Samastipur District Chess Association under the aegis of the All Bihar Chess Association.

Patna’s Himanshu Harsh got the second position by defeating Patna’s Vijay Kumar on the number two board. On the third board, Sudhir Kumar Sinha of the Postal Department defeated Veer Kumar of Khagaria and captured third place.

After decades, a woman player made her place in the Bihar senior team when Mariam Fatima of Muzaffarpur defeated Piyush Kumar of Patna on the number six board.

Chief guest Professor Umesh Chandra and guest of honour Dilip Kumar Chowdhary gave away the trophies and certificates to the top 10 finishers. They also gave away the cash award of Rs 30000 to the winners. Champion Vipal Subhashi was awarded this year’s Prof. PN Sharma Memorial Running Trophy.

Prize winner

The tournament director and circle officer of Samastipur Sadar, Vinay Kumar, chief arbiter Nand Kishore Srivastava, deputy chief arbiter SM Iqbal, Manish Kumar, and Md Shahid played a major role in the successful organization of the tournament.
