Bhagalpur: The VIP waiting room at Bhagalpur Junction railway station here was gutted in a major fire today. Located close to room of station master, the fire in VIP waiting room was noticed in afternoon. The fire tenders were immediately rushed to station premises after fire brigade was informed about the incident by station authorities.
Timely action taken for controlling fire helped restricting spread of fire in other areas of station premises. There was no report of any injury or casualty in the incident since there was no one in VIP waiting room at time fire broke out in the room.
However, chaos and confusion prevailed on platform for some time because of the incident. The area around VIP waiting room on platform was cleared of passengers soon after fire broke out. In fact, a major accident could be averted due to timely detection of fire and subsequent actions taken to control the fire.
The cause of fire in VIP waiting room is yet to be detected. As per local railway officials only after proper enquiry anything could be said authentically about cause of fire. However preliminary enquiry suggests possibility electric short circuit might have led to fire in VIP waiting room.
