Lucknow/Varanasi: The holy city of Varanasi, India’s spiritual capital will play host to a spectacular Closing Ceremony for the 3rd Khelo Indian University Games (KIUG) 2022 Uttar Pradesh (UP) tomorrow at IIT – BHU led by none other than the Hon. Chief Minister of the State, Yogi Adityanath ji. The 100-minute ceremony will also see the presence of Shri. Anurag Thakur, Hon. Union Minister for Youth Affairs & Sports and Information and Broadcasting, among other key dignitaries.
The KIUG 2022 UP, which was declared open by the Hon. Prime Minister virtually on May 25, 2023, concludes on Saturday, June 03, 2023, after 12-days of intense competition between close to 4000 athletes from over 200 universities, in 21 sporting disciplines. Varanasi was also one of the four host cities in UP for the Games and saw the Wrestling and Yogasana competitions held at the SAC hall in the IIT-BHU campus.
Sharing his thoughts on the occasion, Shri. Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Sports, Government of UP, said, “We are proud that this third edition was not only good but the best games ever. Under the able guidance of Hon’ble PM Shri. Narendra Modi ji and the leadership of the Hon. Chief Minister Shri. Yogi Adityanath ji, the entire organizing team is extremely happy and proud to have delivered a successful Games despite the challenges faced, given nothing of this scale in sports had ever been organized before in the State. We are confident, that these Games will usher in a new sporting revolution in the State, in-line with the vision of the Hon’ble PM sir and Hon. Chief Minister sir regarding the future of the youth of the state. We also thank everyone, including the volunteers especially, for the support provided to us in organizing the Games without any hiccups.”
The Closing Ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7 pm in the evening with Ganesh Vandana. Besides addresses by key dignitaries, there is also going to be a film shown on the journey of the Games Torch in the State, a KIUG 2022 UP wrap-up film, a Yogasana display and a spectacular Drone show. In between, the winning Universities will also be felicitated and presented with Trophies.
