Patna: The stage is set for the Shaheed Ajay Kumar Singh Memorial Girls Hockey Tournament, organised under the joint aegis of the Bihar Sports Development Authority (SDAB) and RK Roy Foundation, beginning at the Patliputra Sports Complex ground on Thursday.

Giving this information, the patron of the foundation-cum-international hockey player Ajitesh Rai said that the chief guest of the opening ceremony of the tournament will be DG SDAB Raveendran Sankaran.

It is being organised with the aim of uplifting and popularising girls’ hockey in Bihar, especially in Patna.

Foundation’s director, Arunima Rai, a former national hockey player, said that the tournament will be played on a league-plus-knockout basis. Eklavya Hockey Training Centre Purnia, Eklavya Hockey Training Centre Patna and host RK Rai Hockey Academy Patna will participate in the tournament. The tournament will be played in the five-a-side format that is becoming increasingly popular abroad.
