Bhagalpur: In a concerning development prevalence of avian influenza (H5N1) has been confirmed among birds in regional poultry farm located in Barari area here. Avian influenza in poultry farm birds has been confirmed following sample test of birds at National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases situated at Bhopal.
Confirmation about prevalence of bird flu among poultry farm birds has been communicated to local administration by director, animal husbandry department, government of Bihar referring to sample test results at National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases.
In his letter to concerned local authority the director of animal husbandry department has asked for implementing Action Plan for Prevention, Control &Containment of Avian Influenza (Revised 2021) framed by Government of India.
The local administration has been put on alert in light of test results confirming spread of avian influenza among poultry farm birds. As per information, in recent past samples were sent for test after poultry farm birds were found dying in number of cases.
Taking into consideration the regional poultry farm is center of origin of disease, as per specified guidelines of Action Plan for Prevention, Control & Containment of Avian Influenza (Revised 2021), the area under one kilometer radius of regional poultry farm has been declared infected zone.
The area falling in nine-kilometer radius beyond infected zone has been declared as surveillance zone. Teams have been constituted for culling of poultry birds besides other birds in infected zone in order to contain spread of bird flu.
Apart from culling, destroying eggs and poultry feed has been also planned in infected zone for prevention and control of the disease. Total two teams have been constituted for culling of birds in infected zone. Sell of chicken and egg has been also restricted temporarily in infected zone.
For purpose of surveillance executive magistrates and police personnel have been deployed in surveillance zone. Control room has been established besides rapid response team has been constituted for monitoring and speedy action needed for controlling spread of avian influenza.
