Bridegroom Duped, Bride Flees After Fake Marriage

Bhagalpur: A rude shock waited for Amit, a bridegroom of Uttar Pradesh who was here yesterday for marrying his would-be bride from Kahalgaon. Following a fake marriage his bride fled and he was also allegedly duped Rs 62,000 by people who accompanied the bride, suspected to be her family members.

A resident of Danterganj tehsil in Budaun district of Uttar Pradesh, Amit a widower was all set to tie knot second time and for the purpose he was here yesterday. As per information he came in touch with his would-be bride after he contacted her seeing her Facebook profile picture.

Gradually they became close and subsequently shared their photographs through WhatsApp. Later the bridegroom was asked by his would-be bride to come here. After Amit reached here a fake marriage was solemnized with his said bride in a hotel.

Everything was fine till fake marriage was performed. As told to police by bridegroom, after marriage was solemnized, he came to railway station with her bride and people who had come with her bride were sitting in park at railway station.

While they were waiting at station to take a train for return journey Amit said he was asked by someone among people who had come with the bride to bring sleeper for her from nearby market. Amit further said as he returned from market purchasing sleeper, he found his bride and also people who were with her missing.

However, a woman who was allegedly among people who had come with the bride was caught by Amit and handed over to police. The woman identified as Sunita Devi of Kahalgaon handed over to Kotwali police however denied she had anything to do with the fake marriage.

She told police that she neither knows the bride nor the bridegroom. She further told police that she was waiting at station to catch a train for Kahalgaon. The whole matter is being investigated by police.

As per available information it is suspected by police that an organized gang is involved in trapping people particularly those residing in other states in name of marriage. Fake marriages are solemnized by gang members for duping people. If sources are to be believed from this region there had been reports of some similar fake marriages in past in which bridegroom of other states were duped in name of marriage.
