PATNA: Political strategist Prashant Kishor began his 3,500-km long padayatra from Bhitiharwa Gandhi Ashram in Bihar’s West Champaran district on Sunday, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
It was from this ashram that Mahatma Gandhi had launched his Champaran Satyagrah in 1917.
During the padyatra, which is part of Kishor’s Jan Suraj campaign, the political strategist and his followers will cover all the 38 districts of Bihar in about 18 months. It is being widely seen as a precursor to his entry into politics.
Talking to reporters during the yatra, Kishor said the idea behind this programme was to get the society to identify the right people to contest elections.
Ahead of the padyatra, Kishor tweeted in Hindi that he was determined to change the system in the poorest and most backward state of Bihar. “Determined to change the system in Bihar–the poorest and most backward state of the country—. The first important step is the 3500-km padyatra in cities, towns and villages of the state in the next 12 to 15 months to form a new and better system with the help of society,” he said in the tweet.
