Patna: Director General of Sports Development Authority of Bihar (SDAB) Raveendran Sankaran said that 513 athletes from Bihar participated in NIDJAM 2023, of whom 63 have been selected for the national camp.
He said the selected athletes will be given high quality training by the trainers of the Sports Authority of India (SAI). He said that 8 athletes were selected from Bhagalpur, 6 from Gaya, and 4 each from Jehanabad, Siwan, and Patna. Apart from this, three Bihar athletes, Soni, Nishi and Virender Yadav have already been selected for the Netaji Subhash National Institute of Sports, Patiala
Patliputra Sports Complex has been identified by AFI as a special training centre and soon young athletes from Assam, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Odisha and Bihar will be trained here under the supervision of national level coaches.
The Sports Authority is working on the sports scholarship policy, which will have provisions for education, medical care, diet, and a rehabilitation plan for the players and will be released soon. Recently, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced direct appointments in the Bihar Administrative and Police Services for winning medals in national and international championships at the inauguration ceremony of NIDJAM 2023.
Elaborating on his future plans, Sankaran said that a talent hunt for table tennis and taekwondo is going to be organised at the Pataliputra Sports Complex this month.
