Bhagalpur: A couple was shot dead by unidentified criminals in Munger district today. The victims have been identified as Ashish Raj and his wife Sunita Devi residents of Dakra Satjhuria under Sofiasarai police station of the district.
As per information in early hours of the day while victim Ashish Raj and his wife Sunita Devi was on way to Bariyarpur on a motorcycle they were intercepted by unidentified criminals at a secluded place on NH-80 near Chadrapura pond under Naya Ramnagar police station.
After intercepting the victims, the motorcycle borne criminals reportedly fired on them in which husband died on the spot while his wife who sustained grievous injury in firing rushed to hospital died subsequently.
Ashish Raj in past used to work as agent of Life Insurance Corporation and afterwards as agent of a private insurance company. His wife Anita Devi was employed as nurse in Bariyarpur primary health center. Ashish Raj was going to Bariyarpur to drop his wife at primary health center.
The motive behind the crime is not clear yet. Four empty cartridges have been recovered by police from place of occurrence. The incident is being investigated by police taking into consideration different possibilities.
However as per unconfirmed report some specific leads have been found in the case on which police is working presently. Following the incident, a sense of fear gripped among people residing adjoining the place of occurrence. As per a press note issued by Munger police registering FIR at Naya Ramnagar police station the incident is being investigated.
