Patna: Bihar started their campaign on a winning note, thrashing Telangana 5-0 in the 13th Hockey India Sub-Junior Men’s National Championship at Birsa Munda Stadium in Rourkela on Thursday.
In the first match of Group G, Akash Yadav performed brilliantly in Bihar’s victory, for which he received the player of the match award.
In the first and inaugural match of the tournament played this morning, Bihar were leading 2-0 at half time against Telangana.
In the second half, Bihar scored three more goals. Amarendra Kumar Singh scored the first goal of the match through a penalty corner in the 19th minute, Ashish Ranjan scored the second goal in the 27th minute.
Captain Akash Yadav scored the third goal in the 38th minute from the penalty corner, Kumar Prince Pandey scored the fourth goal in the 41st minute through the penalty corner and the last goal was scored by Rajan Kumar in the 58th minute through the penalty corner (5-0).
Bihar will play their second match against Mizoram on May 19.
