Bhagalpur: The Li-Ning Bihar State Junior (U-17/19, B/G) Ranking Badminton Tournament, 2023 was formally inaugurated here today at Indoor Badminton Hall. The Bihar Badminton Association and Bhagalpur District Badminton Association is jointly organizing the tournament.
Though tournament officially started yesterday, however, inaugural ceremony of the tournament was held today. Taking together participants in U-17 and U-19 category total 114 players from different districts of state are participating in the tournament. The tournament would conclude on August 23.
Shri Satyajit Sahay, honorary secretary of Bhagalpur District Badminton Association cum secretary (events), Bihar Badminton Association said players from total 24 districts of state are participating in the tournament.
He informed all matches of five- day tournament would be held at Indoor Badminton Hall here. Mostly first and second round matches of tournament were held today. The matches of tournament scheduled today concluded late in the evening. Mithilesh Kumar, performed duty of chief referee.
Earlier in the day the tournament was inaugurated by Shri Rajiv Kant Mishra, Vice-Chairman, Bihar Bal Sharamik Aayog. Shri Dayanidhan Pandey, Divisional Commissioner, Bhagalpur and Dr Yogesh Kumar Sagar, Municipal Commissioner, Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation were respectively chief guest and guest of honour on the occasion.
The messages of Shri K N Jaiswal, secretary general of Bihar Badminton Association and Dr Tapan Kumar Ghosh, president, Bhagalpur Badminton Association communicating their good wishes were read out on the occasion in their absence.
Number of sports enthusiasts and sports lover of city including Dr Saheed Raza Jamal, Dr Mithilesh Kumar Sinha, Nasar Alam, Roop Kumar, Namita Sahay and Binod Kumar were present on the occasion. Those present at inaugural ceremony also included Shri Jai Narayan Kumar, district sports officer, Bhagalpur. The proceedings of inaugural ceremony of tournament were conducted by Rajesh Nandan.
