Patna: The ongoing land survey in Bihar is set to accelerate from the end of February, according to Additional Chief Secretary of the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, Deepak Kumar Singh. The process will commence across all districts, followed by the publication of a draft, allowing landowners to submit objections and claims as per the survey procedures.
In September, the state government had granted landowners additional time to submit necessary documents after receiving complaints that many were struggling to obtain records such as Jamabandi (land revenue records), ownership deeds, or partition papers to support their claims.
More than 10,000 survey officers are currently engaged in the survey, which is progressing according to schedule. Meanwhile, the state government has set a new deadline to complete the land survey by mid-2026.
This special land survey—the first in over a century—aims to update land records, identify encroachments, particularly on government land, and reduce land disputes and related crimes. Additionally, it seeks to enhance transparency in land transactions across the state.
