Patna: Darbhanga MP and former Union Minister Ali Ashraf Fatmi has resigned from the Janata Dal (United). Mohd Ali Ashraf Fatmi, JD(U) national general secretary, has resigned from primary membership and all JDU positions.

In a letter to the national president of JD(U), Fatmi declared, “To protect the moral values, I am resigning from the primary membership along with all the posts of Janata Dal United.”

Fatmi, who is upset about seat distribution in the NDA, has resigned from the party. It is expected that Fatmi will come home shortly and may join RJD.

Fatmi, who was upset that Madhubani and Darbhanga seats went to the BJP, has left the JD (U). He may run for election from Madhubani on an RJD ticket.

Fatmi resigned from the RJD before the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and joined the JD (U). Within five years, he had returned home. Fatmi, enraged by being refused a ticket in 2019, proclaimed her intention to run for office from Madhubani and eventually joined the JD (U). Fatmi had targeted Tejashwi Yadav at the time, claiming that “I have been doing politics for longer than Tejashwi’s age”. At the time, Mukesh Sahni’s party VIP held the Madhubani seat as part of the coalition.
