Bharat Singh Chauhan re-elected unopposed as Asian Chess Federation deputy president

New Delhi: Contesting on the ticket of president Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifah Al Nahyan, Chauhan turned out to be a unanimous choice for the post of deputy president as no other contestant chose to compete before the deadline on September 27. This is the second term for Chauhan as the deputy president of Asian Chess Federation.

The honour is bestowed on Chauhan again thanks to his remarkable exploits during the chess Olympiad that witnessed a record participation. In addition to being to this the Delhi-based chess buff who has had a tremendous run as a chess administrator in the last three years.

Hisham Al Taher of UAE, Sahapol Nakvanich of Thailand and. Xu Yuhua of China are also elected for the general secretary, treasurer and vice president respectively.

It is pertinent to mention that during the FIDE Congress held along with 44th FIDE Chess Olympiad at Mahabalipuram, Singh was elected unopposed as president of Commonwealth Chess Association as well as FIDE nominated him as the chairman of FIDE advisory board which include legendary Grandmasters Vladimir Kramnik and Judit Polgar. The advisory board will play a crucial role in FIDE management as it presents its recommendations to the different governing bodies of FIDE regarding the most important issues of the organization of chess life.

The chess world is recognizing the contribution of Chauhan in every aspect and it is to be recalled that, All India Chess Federation under his leadership as tournament director pulled off a memorable World Chess Olympiad with a short span of five months.

Speaking on his re-election as deputy president of Asian Chess Federation, Chauhan said: “This is one of the best recognition for all the hard work and the Chess Olympiad which was a grand success. I am sure this is a new dawn in the history of Indian chess and we are on our way to become the best chess playing nation in the world”.
